A LIBRA BIRTHDAY WEEK & DIY BANNER

This past week we celebrated two September birthdays in our family. My middle son turned seven and I also share this birthday week with him. These boys (husband included) know how to celebrate me with all my favorites. My husband and I celebrated first by a dinner out. We enjoyed our favorite new places with a delicious flight of Bordeaux wine and after, an invigorating Mediterranean dinner. One step inside Abigail St, and you will be blown away by the smell of simmering spices. A few photos via iphone from our birthday date are below.Β  I love having each other all to ourselves. We met when we were 18 years young and every year gets better. And that’s 18 years together too, ok now you can do the math.

A few days later on my birthday morning, I woke up to a stack of handmade birthday coupons and cards, flowers, thoughtful gifts from each of my little ones and although we were a bit distracted that morning before school, it was nothing an extra trip back to school with a forgotten homework folder (oops) couldn’t fix. I enjoyed birthday calls and messages from all of my close friends and family. My husband brought home Indian food carry out for dinner after work (a night off of cooking!), and we stayed up watching The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel via Apple TV. That movie deserves another post entirely- fantastic movie.

We followed up our birthday week with some exciting food allergy test results, a soccer game, a green lizard birthday party for 7 years and a cousin’s squash tournament. We had a house full of family, which made the birthday week complete and enjoyable. The company of people who care for each other and can share happiness is the true gift of celebrating anything together.

Do you have any Libras in your family? You should! We are good bunch! And now for something crafty…

DIY HAPPY BIRTHDAY FELT BANNER

I made this yellow felt birthday banner to actually coordinate with the colors in our home. This color will work out for reusing for all of our birthday celebrations, regardless of the theme. I am including a template for you to make one of your own.

Supplies: 1/2 yard wool felt,Β  Happy Birthday Felt Banner Template PDF printed on regular computer paper, scissors, straight pins, thread and needle.

Directions: Print out template above on regular printer paper. Cut out the letters individually with the top border included. Pin the letter templates to the felt and cut out. You will have to make (2) of letter H, A, P and Y. Then thread the letters together using a simple straight stitch. I used three straight stitches in the top border of each letter. You can adjust the letters as needed. We hung ours with washi tape on our dining room wall.
