Kipper the Dog Birthday Brunch

My youngest, my baby, turned three last week. It is so bittersweet the third time around. Has this really concluded our decade of having a baby or toddler? I was not emotional at any other birthday (other than their actual birth days) until now. Oh yes, I have shed some serious tears. It sounds cliche, but I waited my entire life to have a baby, (or babies) and ten years well they just. flew. by. too. fast.

Ok, enough of the sappy mommy talk. So, we had a party, a sweet birthday brunch to celebrate three wonderful years. I have never hosted a birthday brunch before, but have always been intrigued by the idea. And I have to admit now, I love it! I love the time of day, I love breakfast as a shared meal and I love coffee. We had our brunch at 11 o’clock in the morning, giving our family enough time to arrive at our house from outside the city.

Kipper, yes the delightful, British pup and his friends joined us to celebrate. We have only had one very beloved (by two of my boys) Kipper storybook and since his birthday we now have an entire collection of books of Kipper! We spotted a lot of 20 books by Mick Inkpen (majority are Kipper) for only $30 in the US on Ebay- score! We have watched the cartoon episodes a bunch of times and collectively think Kipper & friends are just plain old sweet (and quiet) fun. I wanted to incorporate a small dose of the Kipper the Dog theme into the brunch and started with the invitations. I hand painted the characters my little one loved the most and went from there. You may have seen a little sneak peek here and there on Instagram. I followed up with some simple DIY decorations including a photo chandelier, blue and white striped crowns, pom-pom garland and character toppers. I will be sharing the specifics of the decor in an upcoming post. And also stay tuned for a post with the meal I prepared for brunch that ended with the little banana cake and three birthday candles. Everything turned out super sweet just like my little one. What joy he has brought to our family, to his older brothers, his Daddy and I over the last three years. We love you so much!
