SIMPLE DIY PLACEMAT FOR KIDS
This DIY placemat is something super simple I made one day for my 2 year old. I had a scrap of gray canvas and a sharpie. While he was playing restaurant and kitchen, I drew the place setting and decorative border on this canvas, then stitched the edges. Next time I might actually cut the canvas straight and write the items legibly for a toddler (ha) but for now, this works fine. Share → Tweet
HANDMADE BABY GIFT
Lindsay and I met several years ago online through a mutual friend, while she was living in Brooklyn and I was living in Chicago. I immediately was drawn to her eco style, her interest in children’s fashion and her love of Montessori (she is a Montessori teacher)! We would chat back and forth and at one point, she mentioned she was from Cincinnati, where we lived for 10 years prior to our move to Chicago. A small world indeed, as we both moved back to Cincinnati at different times in... Read The Rest →
HOLIDAY PAPER ART | FOR THE TODDLER
The two year old wanted in on the holiday paper crafting, so I put together something simple for him. SIMPLE STANDING CHRISTMAS TREE Supplies: 2 sheets of paper (same size), paints or crayons (we used his new Do-A-DOT paints), scissors and a glue stick. Directions: Take one piece of paper and cut into a paper tree shape. The best way to do this is fold paper in half, then draw with pencil one side of a Christmas tree and cut out. It should remain the approximate height of the original... Read The Rest →
Holiday Paper Art
Every time a new holiday or season approaches my boys run and get some paper and start making things. I guess it is the easiest and most accessible tool for them to create. So as soon as Thanksgiving ended, they were drawing and painting holiday scenes, Christmas trees, winter wonderlands and already cutting snowflakes. Last year, my oldest really got into making paper snowflakes. So much so that we sent a handcrafted snowflake to many friends and family members with our Christmas card. We had enough to make a full... Read The Rest →
A TINY CARE PACKAGE FOR WINTER
“Take a winter walk on a forest trail, to see what hidden treasures winter has hid so well. Use this clay to make a print of what you uncover and see, leaving the treasures tucked in safely under the snowy trees.” – Joya Logue We lived in the city of Chicago for a few years and enjoyed everything it had to offer, city walks being one of them. Last year when we moved north along the lakefront, we realized one thing we had longed for and missed, which was accessibility... Read The Rest →
FARM TO TABLE BIRTHDAY | DECOR
We had a wonderful dinner party to celebrate my youngest turning 2 years old last weekend. I sketched and painted an inspiration board that led to our Farm to Table dinner. Because it was a small group, it lent itself nicely to a sit down “farm to table” style dinner. I envisioned the party in subtle natural colors, instead of the primary farm colors for a kid’s birthday party. I wanted it to look seamless with our home decor in some way, and to use many accents and supplies we... Read The Rest →
AN EASY DIY FOR LEARNING SHAPES
DIY LEARNING SHAPES ACTIVITY I made this super easy shape game for my almost 23 month old this week. I had already decided to paint watercolor cards for a matching game, but after watching his fascination with a bag of leftover craft sticks, I decided to incorporate those as well. All I did was use black watercolor paint to draw the shapes on white watercolor cards. You could just use a Sharpie here too, but I love the dimension and artistic view that watercolor adds. Then I took a black... Read The Rest →
A LITTLE AUTUMN IN FELT
Last week I started to set up the Montessori shelves for my toddler. I decided to purposely keep a few of his wooden toys on the shelves first, and then to slowly add some of the new Montessori works in the coming days and weeks. I want him to notice the new environment and explore with familiar items. He has totally fell in love with this special place already! It has become a little routine for us to drop off the older boys to school, come home and get our... Read The Rest →
A LIBRA BIRTHDAY WEEK & DIY BANNER
This past week we celebrated two September birthdays in our family. My middle son turned seven and I also share this birthday week with him. These boys (husband included) know how to celebrate me with all my favorites. My husband and I celebrated first by a dinner out. We enjoyed our favorite new places with a delicious flight of Bordeaux wine and after, an invigorating Mediterranean dinner. One step inside Abigail St, and you will be blown away by the smell of simmering spices. A few photos via iphone from... Read The Rest →
THE BABY NURSERY #5
The Before photographs of the baby’s room. I am decorating the baby’s room in our house as we speak. This is the fifth room we have called a baby nursery. We’ve moved a few times over the last 10 years! This room is so pretty with a fireplace (inoperable, decorative), floor to ceiling bookshelves, beautifully restored woodwork, doors and two large bright windows. It gets a tremendous amount of light. The ceilings in this home are at least 10′ high. Because we have lived in all sorts of style of... Read The Rest →
