SPRING CLEANING
We had a gorgeous day here in southern Ohio today! It was the perfect day for some spring cleaning outside. The little one and I headed out to the front porch to spray it down, sweep, pull weeds and water the flowers. We have a massive, beautiful Victorian porch. It is really something. I feel incredibly honored and blessed to be able to enjoy it, and I actually feel this way every time we sit out there. Sometimes I even sit and think of all the people, or families that... BABY NURSERY | DETAILS
Not too long ago I posted about how I am continuously updating the baby nursery, or should I say toddler room now? I haven’t dedicated much time to the big changes yet, but so far I have been rearranging the little details. There are two built in bookcases that are the full height of the room. I love them. I am painting a little thing to have printed on paper or removable wallpaper to create a backdrop on a few shelves. And then I am having fun placing thoughtful items... Read The Rest →
GRAY FELT BASKET FOR SMALL HANDS
The other day I happened to come across this small, inexpensive gray basket. It is made of sturdy felt and has cut out handles making it easy to tote from room to room. I don’t know if you have little ones who like to bring a collection of small things with them everywhere they go, but if you are like us, this will come in handy. I love how it is perfectly sized for my two year old and has no sharp edges for him to bump into when he... Read The Rest →
FARM TO TABLE BIRTHDAY | DECOR
We had a wonderful dinner party to celebrate my youngest turning 2 years old last weekend. I sketched and painted an inspiration board that led to our Farm to Table dinner. Because it was a small group, it lent itself nicely to a sit down “farm to table” style dinner. I envisioned the party in subtle natural colors, instead of the primary farm colors for a kid’s birthday party. I wanted it to look seamless with our home decor in some way, and to use many accents and supplies we... Read The Rest →
SATURDAY MORNINGS IN OCTOBER
Saturday mornings in Autumn are for a baby in a footed sleeper + cardigan sweater, french pressed coffee sipped slowly, hot rice cereal with cinnamon+raisins+brown sugar, planning a 2nd birthday, bright sun and colorful leaves, brisk air on the porch, knitting a wool sweater and discussions about Halloween costumes. Our Hot Breakfast Cereal: Gluten Free, Vegan, Food Allergy Friendly Ingredients: Arrowhead Mills Rice & Shine, vanilla Hemp Bliss milk, raisins, cinnamon, brown sugar, flax seeds and banana slices. Recipe: We cook up the Rice & Shine on the stove top... Read The Rest →
INDIA ON MY MIND
My grandmother celebrates her 90th birthday today, and my father traveled to India to celebrate with her. In the photo above, my grandmother is in the middle, with my grandfather behind her and my dad (the baby) on my great aunt’s lap. My sister had prints made of these family photos for all of us and I finally ordered a beautiful magenta linen to make custom mattes for them. Stunning 1940′s family in India, right? Happy Birthday Thakuma! I spoke to her this morning on the phone, and it seems... Read The Rest →
NO NAP FRIDAY
Hey it’s Friday! It seems my last two days of photos on Instagram are color coordinated. All along, I had planned to write up “real-time” journal posts during my 22 month old’s nap time, and daily. Some days that works. Some days that does not work. I know I could try the late night journal blogging that a lot of moms do, and I did that when I was starting joyababy. I spent a lot of nights up sewing and working and subsequently a lot of days half asleep. I... Read The Rest →
VINTAGE THRIFTING | MY FINDS
What can I say, you take this family into any store and we most likely will come out with books in hand. We love to be surrounded by books, new ones, old ones, books for the kids, books for the baby, reference books, cookbooks, novels and travel books. These travel books above had me at their awesome font, and well I love those places. I also love the square photos inside that almost look like instagram photos from yesteryear. We haven’t traveled abroad any time recently so more reason to... Read The Rest →
THE BABY NURSERY #5
The Before photographs of the baby’s room. I am decorating the baby’s room in our house as we speak. This is the fifth room we have called a baby nursery. We’ve moved a few times over the last 10 years! This room is so pretty with a fireplace (inoperable, decorative), floor to ceiling bookshelves, beautifully restored woodwork, doors and two large bright windows. It gets a tremendous amount of light. The ceilings in this home are at least 10′ high. Because we have lived in all sorts of style of... Read The Rest →
